The African Women Mobilization Commission (AWMC) is a non-profit organization created with the sole purpose to uplift, empower and inspire the women and children in and outside of the diaspora!

About Us

INSPIRING WOMEN AND CHILDREN AT EVERY TURN

Our Story

The African Women Mobilization Commission was founded because of the founders desire to make a change in the lives of women and children. Having experienced the negative impact of the Nigerian Biafran war, and a survivor of personal assault, AWMC's founder and president, Dr. Uwa Onyioha Osimiri, made it this organizations mission to provide opportunities for vulnerable citizens, focusing on displaced women and children. Her passion for vulnerable people in these brackets has focused the mission of the organization on mobilizing women for capacity building, philanthropic efforts, advocacy for domestic violence, cultural programming, and training.

We believe that when a woman is empowered the nation is empowered. We believe that every opportunity we provide for women, creates a mindset of generosity. Our vision is empowering women who will play it forward so others may thrive.

AWMC has offered over 500 IT scholarships for disadvantaged women, providing capacity building training in making Vaseline, air fresheners, and soap to hundreds of women at the IDP camps. We have fed hundreds of internally displaced people in four IDP camps in Maiduguri Nigeria, offering 100 educational scholarships to elementary school children at these camps and created a children’s cultural group of dance drumming and singing, to encourage the children to use their talents to overcome the tragedy of displacement, and loss.
